Happy July 4th & a little Family History

Happy July 4th!

Here's a little bit of family history from me...
My grandfather (6 generations ago)
came to America from Hesse, Germany
to help fight the revolutionary war
with the promise that land would be given him.
That agreed with him, and he left his country
to come help fight a war in America.
And as promised,
land was given to him.
Over the last 6 generations,
some of that land has been pieced up and sold,
but I'm proud to say that my family
still lives on some of that land.
Land that has never been owned by anyone else.
Isn't that kind of cool?

Enough about that.
I've made some projects for you today!

First, a cook-out apron card.
I hope all my American friends visiting my blog today
have great plans for the weekend with your
family and friends.
Maybe a cookout?
Maybe some fireworks?

For my apron shaped card,
I used the Silhouette file ID# 59765

Solid papers from Bazzill
Pattern papers from Doodlebug Designs "Star & Stripes"
Craftin Desert Divas "Celebrate Freedom" for sentiment

For my 2nd project,
an adorable little Patriotic darling.
She appears to be waiting on the parade
to pass by.

  9. It's so cool your family has kept some of the land for so long. And that your grandfather sometime back volunteered to fight our war! I recently found out I'm a descendent of Pocahontas. Isn't Ancestry great? Anyway, great projects, all of them! Love the apron card and the parade goer card. Thanks for sharing at Cupcake Inspirations! Come play again soon. Nance, DT

  18. Thanks for sharing the story of your family. It's always so fun to hear family stories. My maternal family was also from Germany. Paternal was Norwegian. It's just interesting to imagine how our ancestors lived.
