Great book. 

Sometimes it's nice just to read something that gives you the warm fuzzies. No mystery (even though I love mystery books), just good ole regular people who find each other and give LOVE a chance.

This Impossible Brightness

by Jessica Bryant Klagmann

I enjoyed this book. I wanted the story to move faster, but I enjoyed all the characters and the idea of the storyline. They did repeat a certain part of the book many times which seemed redundant. 

Loved the dog in the story. I'm telling you right now, if there is a dog in any book that gets hurt in any way, I'll stop reading it.  I love murder mysteries to see how they figure out who did it, but you start hurting dogs - I'm outta here. 

The doggie in this book.... love him!

The Teacher

I picked this book based on the cover. Didn't ready any blurb for what it was about. 

Oh my gosh. It started out good. The middle was good. The ending was OUTSTANDING!

At first when I started reading it, I thought, "I don't know if I want to keep reading this." But I did. I was invested at this point. Plus I had to make sure the "bad guy" got it in the end.

I thought it was over, but it wasn't.

Then I thought it was over again, but it wasn't.

Then a third time, I was like, "Yes! Love it! Totally unexpected! Now that's a good ending!"

The Bookstore Sisters

by Alice Hoffman

Another novella. I thought I'd try this short story type of book again while I wait on my 7 different Library holds to come available. I just like to read. It feels weird to not be reading something everyday.

This book was a waste of my time. I mean it kept me reading because I did not want a DNF (Did Not Finish) this year. Blah. Just Blah.

The sisters were best buds growing up, then estranged for decades, and then **SNAP** all of a sudden (like between one sentence and the next), they are besties again.  I wasn't convinced... just didn't seems likely with that turnaround. Whatever. Are there any good novellas out there? Am I just picking the wrong ones?

This was a novella (short story). I don't normally read these, but thought what the heck. I'm between books right now. It's short. I'll try it.

Yuck. Not a fan. Not enough time getting to know the characters & honestly just boring.

This eBook was borrowed from the library for 21 days. However, once I started reading it, I decided it would be so much better as an audiobook. LOL So for now this book is on hold until it's my turn on the wait-list for the audiobook.

I'll be back with a review whenever that happens. Right now the library is estimating a 9 week wait! 

But I know if I skipped #7 with my posts right now, you may be wondering why. Now you know. :)

The Fury by Alex Michaelides

Great Book! I loved the plotting, different characters point of view, the reveals here and there, and great ending. It did go on a bit long. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston

Loved this book! So many twists I didn't expect. It was fun for me to try to figure out who did it, and keep changing my mind as more information was revealed. That's what makes a great mystery: the every changing possibility of who did it sort of thing. Loved the ending. Totally unexpected.

A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham

The only reason I gave this book 3 stars and not more, was because of the subject matter. I don't like hearing about this kind of thing. But it was a good book. And if you like this kind of topic, you'll probably love this book. 

For this book in my journal I wrote:

"This was a creepy book. Not scary, just sickening how it turned out."

January Books Read

Happy Sunday, my friends!

    I thought I would share with you the books I read in January. I searched for some reading groups on Goodreads and Facebook to see what kind of challenges I may want to participate in.  There are so many groups! I chose 2 different groups in their 2024 Book Challenge.  One group has 52 prompts of types of books, and the other has 24 prompts based on the book's cover.  

    I don't like being forced inside a box of rules, but the way I'm doing these challenges is a little backwards. Instead of finding a book to read for the prompts, I'm reading books I want to read and then seeing which prompt they may fit. If I don't fill in all the prompts by the end of the year, I'm okay with that. I love reading. And the prompts are just a little game to play while I'm doing it.

    A lot of the books on my "To Read" list are on hold with the library until they become available. I also joined Book of the Month in January and purchased one book in January and one in February and decided one book is so not enough to read for a month. I ended up cancelling that this week. BUT then I signed up for Kindle Unlimited. Yay!

    With Kindle Unlimited, some of the eBooks also include the audiobook. Woo-Hoo! I love multitasking with audiobooks. I can fold clothes, do the dishes, laundry, drive, etc while listening to audiobooks. That makes them must faster for me to finish. 

    I still like reading eBooks and physical books in my hands, but I do prefer an audiobook..... unless the narrator has an accent. With my struggling with progressive hearing loss, any background noise or accents are really hard for me to understand. I knew in my 20s I had this hereditary hearing loss thing, and over the years, it just gets a little worse. That's okay. That's just life.
