Boys & Their Toys

Happy Saturday! What are you going to do today? We will probably go to the lake and see my hubby's brother's new lake house that they moved into last Thursday. I bet it's awesome to walk out of your door and sit on the dock watching the world go by. I'm thinking it won't be too long and he'll have a boat tied to that dock for summer time skiing and fishing.

Speaking of boys and their toys...

My husband is an avid outdoor adventurer. He bicycles, motorcycles, runs races (his first Marathon is in March), participates in adventure races with canoing, navigating, biking, running, climbing.... he hikes.... if it's an outdoor sport, he probably either does it, has done it, or is on his bucket list to do.

In honor of all the men (and women) in our lives who are outdoor adventurers, this card is for you. :)

Would you mind please trying to leave a comment on this post? If you are unable to do so, would you please email me at 66cricket at gmail dot com and let me know? If you get an error message, please tell me what it is so I can report it to blogger. Anchors Aweigh!

Good morning! How many of you are in the military or have loved ones who serve? Well, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Conversation with my daddy on Saturday:

Me: "Hey, Daddy. What was the name of the boat you were on in the Navy?"

Daddy: "It's not a BOAT. Submarines are boats."

Me:  "Okay. What was the name of the Battleship you were on?"

Daddy:  "It wasn't a Battleship. It was a Destroyer."

Me:  "What's the difference between a Battleship and a Destroyer?"

Daddy:  "About 4 or 5 football fields."

So after some laughing and "oh my gosh"-ing, I finally got the name of the DESTROYER he was on.

USS Bordelon
DDR-881

I am so very proud of my Daddy for being in the Navy. He served on this ship 1951 to 1961. He was interested in going on to Sonar school, but by the time the opportunity was available, he was married by then and didn't re-enlist.

Here's a POSTCARD I made for him in honor of his Navy Service:

Life is GOOD!

Good morning! I have another PRESERVES tag to show you this morning. I'm so glad I got this from HSN on Clearance for $20! I didn't think I would even like it that much, but thought for $20, there's probably something on there I'd enjoy, plus I'd get the Reward Points. Well, let me tell you, I'm so glad I bought this! It was well worth the $20 and then some. The layering is so very SIMPLE! You will probably be seeing a LOT of Preserves projects for a while. :)

An Apple A Day...

Happy Saturday! What are you going to do this weekend? I'm probably going to do a lot of crafting, reading, and hopefully some crocheting too. I set a Goodreads goal to read 50 books this year. Even if I don't actually reach my goal, it's fun to have one. I also started a red and white crochet afghan this week. I love having "lap blankets" on the couch and in the Lazy Boy chair.

Guess what? The January calendar I made on posted on January 1st is featured today over at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge blog. How cool is that?

Here's a tag I made yesterday. I can not believe how the background paper and ribbon matched exactly. Wow! What's the odd's of that? The paper is textured cardstock that came in a 12x12 Hobby Lobby dark solids pad. The ribbon came from The Dollar Tree. I was hoping to find a ribbon similar in color, but was really surprised when I pulled out my ribbon drawer and saw this matched so well. Who would have "thunk" it?

I am really loving my NEW PRESERVES Cricut cartridge! I know it's an older cartridge, but wow - the layering is so simple and the images are awesome. LOVING IT!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Good morning! I made a Get Well card for my friend, Stacey, last week. Poor dear took a tumble and hurt her knee. That's not fun.  When I was a teenager, I hurt my knee pretty badly snow skiing. Someone ran into me from behind, and we tumbled a bit. I remember getting knocked, and then I remember opening my eyes wondering if anything was broken and if I could move. I was able to get back up and ski the rest of the way down the mountain, but I was done after that. Nothing was broken for me, and no ligaments were torn, but my knee was stiff, swollen, and extremely painful for weeks. To this day it still bothers me going up and down stairs. So when I heard Stacey hurt her knee, I felt her pain, and got a card on the way to her right away.
