BUG CARDS: Ch# 74 @ Paper Playtime

Welcome back! It's the first Monday of the month, so it's time for a DIE CUT CHALLENGE over at my challenge blog, Paper Playtime

For Ch#7 use any type of DIE CUT and/or DIE CUTTING machine
and make a BUG CARD!
Yeah! Bugs! Come on... you know you love cute little ladybugs and caterpillars. :)

I saw my friend, Mary @ CARDZ TV make a really cute bug card a while back. So I went to her blog and searched for it so I could make one sorta-kinda like it myself. You can see her bug card HERE.

Here is my little bug card.... (I LOVE IT!)...

Project #182 of this year

  • A2 size card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2")
  • Card base is Stampin Up's Soft Suede - this is also the ink I used for the edges of the bug and sentiment ticket.
  • DOODLECHARMS used for BUG p. 92 cut @ 3 1/4" using scrap papers
  • The bug was cut using the Blackout feature so I could stamp the face
  • The face is stamped with Peachy Keen Stamps PK-754 Set A Critter Medium using the Stampin Up Soft Suede ink pad
  • I used color pencils to color in his nose and mouth
  • ELEGANT EDGES used for the mat. It's the Butterfly cut on p. 51 cut @ 3 3/4" and with the shadow feature
  • The sentiment is stamped from Mary's CARDZ TV STAMPS "Ticket Talk 2" set. You have GOT to get this set. You can stamp the ticket and then there are lots of sayings that are sized to fit in the ticket space. Ticket to Ride is my fav, but I've already used lots in this set.
  • The buttons are from Joann's.
  • The brown twine is from The Scrapbooking Queen's Royal Castle Shoppe.
  • But wait... there's one more thing... this little buggy is on an ACTION WOBBLE!!! You can get these fun little darlings also from  The Scrapbooking Queen's Royal Castle Shoppe.
Be sure and hop over to Paper Playtime and enter your own BUG CARD.
Our sponsor for this challenge is one of our very own Design Team Members,
The prize is a $20 Visa Card!!  Woo-Hoo! Let's go shopping!

Good luck everyone!

LUAU Party Invitations

If you are looking for Paper Playtime's Anything Goes Challenge & Blog Hop, CLICK HERE!

Thanks for visiting my blog so often! I really enjoy all of you who follow me and leave me great comments. :)

Earlier this week I showed you the College Graduation Invitations that I created with our daughter, Kati. If you missed it, CLICK HERE, or scroll down to Tuesday, May 1st's post.

Today I want to show you the Graduation Party Invitations Kati and I created.

Kati decided she wanted a LUAU party as her Graduation Party theme. How fun is that?! They have spent the last 3 months slowly gathering party supplies and planning every detail of this LUAU, including constructing by hand a TIKI BAR for the backyard. Yes, our daughter knows how to buy wood at LOWES and use POWER TOOLS. Don't let her beauty fool you, she's well-rounded, brilliant (hence the graduating with HONORS), and knows how to build. (Okay, her daddy gave her advice every now and then, but Kati made the plans for it, built it, and only asked a couple of questions about joining. )

Projects #139-169 of this year

  • LIFE IS A BEACH for Tiki Masks cut @ 3"
  • Squares cut from PLANTIN SCHOOL BOOK with Shadow feature cut @ 2 1/2"
  • Bamboo stalks from LIFE IS A BEACH cut @ 3 1/2"
  • "Swiss Dots" Cuttlebug folder for Teal background dry embossing
  • Kati chalked all of the masks using white chalk
  • LUAU cut @ 1 1/2" from LIFE IS A BEACH

Easy Peasy! These took a little longer to assemble than the Graduation invitations because of the chalking, layering with shadows, and getting glue on the bamboo stalks and all the letters. Kati ended up using the 2-Way Glue Pen for the bamboo stalks, but put all of the letters through the Xyron. I love my Xyron!

Be sure and come back here tomorrow to see what this week's Tag Theme Challenge is & enter your tag!

Aloha! :) Janis

Easy Hand-made Graduation invitation

Project #108-138 of this year
It's May! That means lots of Graduations this month. We are very proud of our daughter, Kati, who will be graduating from the
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA
this month
WITH HONORS
with a
BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS
in
PHOTOGRAPHY.

I was honored and a bit surprised when Kati asked if I would help her make her graduation invitations and her graduation party invitations as well. Wow. What an honor.

As you know, Mary of Cardz TV is one of my very best friends. I just love her. I knew when Kati asked me to help exactly what kind of invitation I wanted to do if Kati liked it. It's the invitation I saw Mary create in May of 2010. Kati loved it. So we adjusted a few things to suite it to Kati's needs, and voila. Easy Peasy.

To see Mary's invitation video with all the measurements, CLICK HERE.

We simplified our version quite a bit. We needed much more room for the wording, so we opted out of some of the smaller cuts and matting like Mary had used. I don't know what I'd do without Mary's wealth of ideas. She is so awesome! Love you, Mary!! <3

Here are the details on our project:
  • Invitation base is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". This is not a card, and it does not open.
  • The base was dry embossed with the Cuttlebug folder "Swiss Dots".
  • Black matting 3 1/2" x 4 3/4"
  • Invitation wording mat 3 1/4" x 4 1/2
  • All papers are Recollections
  • Long Reach Ribbon Stitch Punch was used for holes for ribbon. This was $7.00 at Hobby Lobby. It was worth every penny. I originally had thought we'd punch 2 holes with the Crop-a-dile... which would have worked... but then you'd have to be consistent having the holes lined up and even, etc. This Long Reach Ribbon Stitch Punch made it so easy - 1 punch instead of 2. GREAT results. Here's a link to Hobby Lobby's online store where you can see the punch.... CLICK HERE.
  • We used Mary's "bow cheat". Perfect for this. We were able to mail these invitations using only 1 stamp instead of having to add the extra 20 something cents for bumpy or "thick" envelopes. Yeah!
  • The ribbon was also purchased from Hobby Lobby.
These invitations turned out very pretty. I'm still surprised that we were able to get them embossed, cut, punched, ribboned, and assembled in just a few hours.

If you have any questions about anything, just leave me a comment with your email so I can get back with you.  Have a celebrating kind of month..... I'll be back Thursday to show you the Graduation Party Invitations we created. FUNNESS!
:) Janis
